High Blean dates back to 1674 in its current form, and nestles on the south side of Raydale, one of the quietest and peaceful of the Yorkshire Dales, which is also the home to Semer Water the largest glacial lake in North Yorkshire. The house sits 165 feet above the valley floor, which affords magnificent views over Semer Water from the house and garden.

Though High Blean is an old house that has retained many original features, we do offer two good sized en-suite rooms, one of which can be made up as a twin. Each room has its own flat screen TV, hair-dryer and tea & coffee making facilities.
Guests have use of the dining room in which to take breakfast. This room has a large inglenook fireplace and open wood burning grate, to help take the chill off spring mornings. In addition, guests have the use of a lounge, with solid fuel stove, this is an ideal area for relaxing in, on an evening. We provide a selection of traditional board games to while away an hour or two.

High Blean is just under 4 mile outside the village of Askrigg, which can be confusing given our postal address is Askrigg and 5 mile from Hawes. We have ample parking, and a safe area to secure bikes overnight. There is a boot room where we would be happy to store your walking boots and walking or riding clothes overnight.

Raydale is a hidden gem and much quieter than Wensleydale or Swaledale, which is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet and makes it ideal for cycling and walking, or just to sit, listen and take in the rugged beauty of the area. Semer Water, the subject of much myth and legend, fills the valley floor and is a haven for birds, as well as being open for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, and fishing, it is also a venue for wild swimming.
