The Heatherslaw Light Railway is the most Northerly narrow gauge steam railway in England. Travel on our 15" gauge railway pulled by our steam locomotives "Bunty" and "Lady Augusta" or our diesel engine "Binky" between Heatherslaw Station and Etal Castle, a return journey of 4 miles. Our carriages offer a choice of fully enclosed or partly glazed coaches to keep you dry, even on the wettest days.
The Railway runs along the banks of the River Till giving you spectacular views of the Northumberland countryside and Cheviot Hills. Swans, ducks, herons and the occasional otter are some of the residents you may spot along the way.
Why not break your journey at Etal and visit Etal Castle, or walk the short distance up to Etal Village for refreshments at the Lavender Tea Rooms before catching a return train back to Heatherslaw.
On returning to Heatherslaw Station you are welcome to browse in the Ticket Office gift shop or visit the Railway room to view our "G" gauge model railway.
A short walk across the bridge takes you to Ford and Etal visitor centre and the working watermill, Heatherslaw Mill. The Heatherslaw Tearoom is also open for refreshments.
