The New Vic Theatre

The New Vic Theatre is the producing theatre for Staffordshire. Under Artistic Director, Theresa Heskins, the New Vic’s mission is to make excellent theatre-in-the-round, and to be a force for positive change in its region.

The New Vic’s home was the first purpose built theatre-in-the-round in the whole of Europe. With nine major productions a year, the New Vic presents a varied and adventurous programme that includes contemporary drama, new commissions, innovative adaptations and accessible classics.

The New Vic makes theatre in an area of significant social and economic disadvantage. But it is an area where arts and culture are making a vital contribution to improving aspiration and attainment and we are proud to be at the forefront of this.

The New Vic has developed extensive and award-winning community involvement through an Education Department working, primarily, within formal education, and ground-breaking New Vic Borderlines working within the social sector, including recent collaborations with the Home Office, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the British Council.

Led by the New Vic, Appetite is part of the Creative People and Places programme, initiated and funded by Arts Council England. There are 21 independent projects, each located in an area where people have traditionally had fewer opportunities to get involved with the arts. Appetite is delivered in partnership with Partners in Creative Learning, 6 Towns Radio and Staffordshire University, and is also supported by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The New Vic Theatre operates thanks to a unique partnership between Arts Council England, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
