Time seems to stand still at Iford Manor, which sits in the idyllic valley of the River Frome, 6 miles South of Bath. The Grade 1 Listed, Internationally recognised Italianate gardens were largely the creation of Harold Peto, a leading Edwardian garden designer, who lived at Iford from 1899 to 1933.

The gardens have been painstakingly restored over the past decades and represent a fascinating window on Harold Peto's passion for travel, culture and collecting. They serve as a memorial to his extraordinary vision as a designer.

The steeply terraced, south-facing gardens are characterised by pools, streams, colonnades, rural views and garden buildings including Harold Peto's exquisite cloister, today used as a venue for arts performances (www.ifordarts.org.uk)

April offers cherry blossom and spring flowers; in late May the garden is famous for its wisteria, on buildings, across arbours and even free-standing; from June to August the borders bring colour to the terraces, and pots provide a Mediterranean feel; September brings a change of colour, with the beech trees above the garden contrasting with the flower borders; October is all about the russet hues, especially from Acer Palmatum, beech and plain trees.

At weekends, the Housekeeper's Tearoom provides sweet refreshments including homemade cakes, bakes and cream teas, served with our own range of loose leaf teas (www.ifordmanorteas.co.uk). During the week, there is a selection of cakes available at the entrance to the garden.
