Gorgie City Farm is a free-entry community led initiative. It serves as a unique outdoor resource offering hands on educational and learning opportunities for all our visitors and offers educational tours and workshops for organised groups particularly schools and nurseries. We also promote community development, environmental sustainability and social inclusion by providing volunteering opportunities for all.
Cows, sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry can all be found at the farm as well as small pet animals and plenty of garden space to explore and relax in. Because of its size, children and adults can get really close to the animals, and understand how a real farm works. Make sure to peek over fences etc into stys and pens and look carefully at piles of hay in case animals are napping post breakfast/ snack time. There's also a small playground with a small climbing frame, slide, and seesaw, and, for nice weather, there's a picnic area outside. Buy eggs and other seasonal produce as available at our produce stall.
There has never been any entry fee in the farm. A critical source of income is from donations of visitors and people supporting our social enterprises such as Pet Boarding [We cater for the family pets while you are on holiday- rabbits, guinea pigs and rodents can come and stay with us - book early for peak periods to guarantee their space]; Holiday Clubs [For older children (8 & over) we have bookable holiday activities available to allow hands-on contact with the animals]; and Birthday Parties [targeted at the 3-7 age group; though older children have also enjoyed them].
We also now do evening activities and are widening our range of adult classes.
