Port Askaig Hotel is a small family run hotel. An 18th century building, the hotel incorporates the oldest licenced premise on Islay, OLD PORT BAR where and excellent selection of the famous Islay Malts can be found. A collection of old and rare whiskies is also displayed which is of great interest to our many whisky enthusiast visitors from all parts of the world.
The hotel offers 11 en suite rooms in the main building with two others in our adjacent annex, 2 bars and a bistro style restaurant, where locally landed sea food is a popular choice. Sited in our own grounds on the harbour side our beer garden is a favourite spot in which guests can enjoy meals and refreshments in summer.
Open all day, serving coffees and snacks outwith main meal times, this is a convenient stop for ferry travelers with 2/5 sailings per day by Caledonian MacBrayne to the port from both mainland terminals - Kennacraig and Oban - depending on season. Also the ferry for our neighbouring Isle of Jura plies from here many times a day on the short crossing to Feolin. Jura , deer island and sometime home of George Orwell, Jura is beautiful with it's rugged scenery a contrast to the soft green hills of Islay.
The views from the hotel across the Sound of Islay are stunning with 5 of our hotel rooms and our 2 annex rooms enjoying the vista.
Our Starboard Bistro offers a varied menu with much locally sourced sea food, Argyll meats and organic vegetables and salads from the hotel garden. Convenient for the local distillereies , Historic site at Finlaggan and many other attractions Port Askaig is an ideal base for your Islay break.
