Aberdovey Golf Club

The earliest golf course at Aberdovey was no more than nine holes, these being flower pots sunk into the turf. However there was soon a realisation as to just how splendid the links land was and the Club was founded in 1892.

Three of the legendary architects of the early 20th century, Harry Colt, James Braid and Herbert Fowler, have all had a hand in shaping Aberdovey as it stands today. They worked around the natural rolling links land to create a golf course to be reckoned with. Tight lies, undulating approaches, dry-firm surfaces and fast greens can all be found here in abundance. No wonder Aberdovey is consistently rated in the Top 100 courses in the UK & Ireland and is home to the Welsh Seniors Closed Championships.

At 6,535 yards off the white tees, the course is not long by the standard of many newer courses. However, the real defences lie in the ever changing winds which ensure that conditions are never the same for long, creating a real test that will require you to play every club in the bag.

The Welsh Hickory Championships are held at Aberdovey annually and with the British Ladies' Home Internationals and Welsh Amateur Championships hosted in recent years, it is testament to the fact that Aberdovey truly is a fine test of links golf.

The modern clubhouse offers full bar and catering facilities, TV lounge with Sky Sports as well as onsite accommodation comprising 6 twin-bedded, ensuite rooms.

It was Bernard Darwin, the first literary giant of the game who returned here regularly, who wrote "Aberdovey is the course that my soul loves best of all the courses in the world"; one can understand why.

Green fees start from £25 per person.
