Built For Intrepid Tourists In 1896 Has Been Allowing Everybody That Same Experience Uninterrupted Since That Time. We Don’t Really Know When The First Building Was Erected On The Peak But By 1820 There Definitely Was One And By 1847 There Was A Small Community Of Wooden Huts Clustered Around The Summit Cairn. By 1930 These Had Deteriorated To Such An Extent That The Decision Was Taken To Build One Multi-purpose Building Instead. This Was Designed By Sir Clough Williams –ellis Better Known As The Creator Of Portmeirion. By The Early Years Of The New Millennium This Building Too Had Succumbed To The Ravages Of Time And The Fierce Weather Of Snowdon And A Decision To Demolish And Rebuild Was Taken. Designed By Ray Hole And Funded By Welsh Assembly Government

Let Snowdon Mountain Railway take you on a journey of a lifetime to the rooftop of Wales. Snowdon, at 1085m dominates the landscape of Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. Claim this mountain peak, the highest in Wales, as a lifetime’s achievement. With stunning scenery and awe-inspiring views it's all part of a great day out for you and your family in North Wales.

From the moment you leave the station your train will begin the journey upwards to the clouds, a journey experienced by some 12 million intrepid travelers since 1896. This is a fabulous land of faeries and giants and kings. For centuries Welsh princes held council here .It is a land rich in alpine flowers and rare ferns left behind the retreating ice age and it is dotted with ruins that chronicle the history of long lost communities. These ancient mountains thrust upwards by volcanis forces 450 million years ago once towered 10,000 metres .Over eons the wind and rain and successive ice ages have sculpted them.

Departures leave Llanberis three times per day, May to September and pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Journey time to the summit is one hour with a 30 minute stop over at the peak.
