Middle Ninfa Farm Bunkhouse and Eco-camping

Middle Ninfa bunkhouse and eco-campsite is located on a small farm in historic and beautiful landscape in south-east Wales, within the Brecon Beacons National Park and close to the market town of Abergavenny, famous for its food, cycling and many other festivals.

The name Ninfa means cottage of the charcoal burners in old Welsh as the manufacture of iron was the main local industry when it was built 3 centuries ago high on the old parish road from the village of Llanfoist over the Blorenge mountain to Blaenavon.

Its 23 acres of broadleaved woodland and flower rich meadows lie within the Brecon Beacons National Park on the edge of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site and immediately below the Punchbowl lake and beech woodland owned by the Woodland Trust. The farm is situated in an International Dark Sky Reserve and is an excellent site for stargazing. It is also very quiet at night other than owls and foxes! The views of the Vale of Usk and Skirrid Mountain are outstanding.

The bunkhouse, a converted stone barn provides comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to 6 people. The ground floor comprises a lounge dining area with double divan, coal-effect gas fire; shower and toilet room; and small but well-equipped kitchen including gas stove, hot water, fridge and microwave oven. The mezzanine floor accessed by a spiral staircase has 4 single beds. Outside there are stone and plastic tables with a stone barbecue beside a shallow pond. Guests need to bring sleeping bags, towells and pillowcases as well as food.

The campsite comprises 8 small camping pitches scattered over the mountainside, each with firepit, shelter and stunning views [two are within woodland but with keyhole views]. 3 more pitches are side by side on a terrace above the croquet/tennis lawn and close to the two compost toilet blocks, one of which also has a solar heated shower. Wheel barrows are available to transport equipment and bags to the remote pitches.

Homegrown produce is available most of the year including fruit, vegetables, salad, duck eggs and preserves.
Once a year, usually in April, we run a 3-day hands-on course in building coracles and willow sculpture.

Abergavenny is a gateway to three internationally renowned landscapes - the Brecon Beacons National Park, Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site , and the majestic Wye Valley. All of these stunning landscapes offer a range of attractions from walking to hangliding, pony trekking, mountain biking and canoeing. Just a short walk from the farm is the tranquil Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. Several excellent walks start from the farm. Laminated route descriptions are available for loan.

The town itself is a lively and attractive market town, with markets most days of the week. St Mary's Priory Church is famous for its medieval tombs and our Borough Theatre has a varied programme of local and UK acts.
