The Whampoa Club strives to bridge the gap for its guests between China’s great culinary history and a desire to innovate. Flavors are intensified. Drama is added to the presentation. Yet this is all done subtly, with a deep respect for traditional Chinese cooking techniques.
The menu highlights the finest of Shanghainese and Cantonese cuisine, drawing on a treasure trove of regional recipes and invigorating them with a contemporary flair.
Accompanying the cuisine is a selection of 50 premium teas from across China, served in traditional tea ceremonies in private tearooms or in the main dining salon. Professional tea sommeliers help guests choose from the vast selection.
Whampoa Club seats 120 guests and has five private dining rooms that can accommodate separate smaller parties, or be combined into one large space for up to 80 people. In addition, two semi-private rooms afford stunning views of the Bund and the Huangpu River.
Eminent Hong Kong designer Alan Chan fashioned the Whampoa Club interior as “a modern take on art deco.” Red and gold lacquer, leather club chairs, and colored glass panels recall 1930s Shanghai in all of its glamor and indulgence. In both cuisine and design, the Whampoa Club deftly blends Chinese tradition and cutting edge innovation. It showcases a commitment to developing revolutionary new dishes while maintaining a reverence for the fundamentals of Chinese cooking. The results are guaranteed to delight lovers of Chinese cuisine worldwide.
