It is known that ‘great wine is made in the vineyard’ and we set out to select an exact location that delivered every advantage of a cool climate, undulating topography and ancient soils. We then wanted to bring some focus to our endeavour. After being resident overseas for many years, we found the elegance & honesty of Northern Italian wines and food is what inspires us. So we found our hidden gem, located down a county lane in the dress circle Warramate foothills of the Yarra Valley. It is from here we set out to make wine with the charm of Northern Italy but the provenance of the majestic Yarra Valley.
Our climatic advantages are similar to Northern Italy therefore enabling us to concentrate on unique varieties like Savagnin ("mother of all grapes"), Viognier, Nebbiolo and Brachetto. We combine this focus on Nothern Italian grape varieties with a fantasti view over our Vineyard and up the the Warramate Hills. We then support all of this with a Northern Iatlain Trattoria serving traditional anti-pasti dishes, al dente psatas & slow-cooked mains and of course wood-fired Pizzas. So you can sit back, enjoy one of the best views in the Yarra Valley and dream of Italy!
SOUMAH's most awarded wines are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. 2013 Single Vineyard Chardonnay has taken a double trophy in 2015 Royal Sydney Wine Show (Best Chardonnay and Best White Wine). That same year the same wine has topped the International Flight of Chardonnays in Vancouver, Canada. Our 2015 Single Vineyard Hexham Pinot Noir has recently been awarded a Trophy at the 2016 International Cool Climate Wine Show. Our reserve 2014 Equilibrio Pinot Noir has received a Double Gold at the 2015 Melbourne International Wine Competition awarding SOUMAH a Pinot Noir Winery of the Year Trophy.
So, to experience your little slice of Northern Italy we invite you to our Trattoria d’ Soumah which is open 7 days from 11:30am till 3pm. Our Cellar Door is open for tastings daily from 10am till 5pm (6pm on weekends).
