Gravity Discovery Centre & Observatory

The Gravity Discovery Centre and Observatory offers a vast array of exciting and fun tourism experiences for visitors. Situated in native bushland, an hour's drive from Perth and twelve kilometres inland off Indian Ocean Drive, the Gravity Centre and Observatory is a surprising destination, with visitors regularly commenting that they had no idea such an amazing facility would be 'stuck out here in the bush'! The beautiful bushland setting makes the Centre unique and surprising… and our 45 metre Leaning Tower adds to the WOW factor.
All areas are suitable for families and seniors, with pram and wheelchair-friendly access. There is an accessible toilet and a change table provided.
Visitors can explore the Biodiversity Gallery, Main Gallery and Theatre, interacting with the hands-on-exhibits for as long as they wish.
The Cosmology Gallery has a first-floor round walk, that demonstrates the timeline of the universe. The ground floor has an Aboriginal Art display, a Laser art display and a unique Penrose tiled floor. The top floor has a tribute to different cultures of the world.
The Gallileo Gravity experiment can be conducted form the top of the 45 metre (on a 15 degree lean), Leaning Tower of Gingin. The views from the top are just magnificent.
The solar walk is one kilometre long and has replicas of all the planets scaled distance from the sun. In conjunction with the bushwalks on site, visitors can experience the beauty of the Wallingup Plain, catch a glimpse of a Kangaroo and in wildflower season, see the array of beautiful flowers on display.
The Gravity Discovery Centre organises tailor-made events to suit tourist groups with a special interest such as wildflowers, biodiversity, art, astronomy of Aboriginal history and culture.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the GDC Observatory runs public stargazing nights. The Centre and Café remain open on these nights so that visitors can have a look around the Centre, have some dinner and then go on to the Observatory.
The stargazing evenings begin with a presentation in the Gravity Discovery Centre Theatre, by the head Astronomer. Following that, visitors walk over to the Observatory and view the night sky through the five large telescopes. Each telescope is pointed at a particular target and tracks that target throughout the viewing. The location of the GDC Observatory means there is excellent dark sky viewing.
