Tarawera is the home of our tribal people, devastated by the eruption of Mount Tarawera on the 10th June 1886. This saw the destruction of what once was the 8th Wonder of the Natural World, the Pink and White Terraces and our ancestors displaced from their homelands. We are back, in the form of Totally Tarawera doing what we have as a people done for centuries. Hosting and sharing our stories with you, our visitors.
We offer a water taxi service to and from Hot Water Beach, the Tarawera Falls and various locations around Lake Tarawera.
DISCOVERY TOUR- Want a more personalised experience? Then come join our small group, guided cultural and geothermal lake discovery tour for a truly memorable time. Connect with our sacred mountain, visit Hot Water Beach, bathe in a native bush hot pool and be captivated by the rich culture and history. 2 hours duration.
TARAWERA TRAIL DAY WALK - Walkers are raving about the stunning 15km Tarawera Trail bush and lake edge walk to Hot Water Beach. Catch the boat trip in or out on the lakes only water taxi service. 4.5 hours duration.
