Napier Prison is New Zealand's oldest standing prison dating back to 1862 and closing in 1993 where it held some of the nations most notorious criminals, from eye eaters to drug barons and mass murderers. The prison also served as an insane asylum and orphanage and some say that the spirits of the dead that are buried here still linger around. Featured in Ghost Hunters International, the prison survived the 1931 devastating Napier Earthquake where 286 individuals were killed. Walk through the undulating corridors which remain.
We offer self-guided audio tours between 9am and 5pm and can provide guided scare or historic tours by prior arrangement. Dress up in our prison or prison guard uniforms, take your mugshot or fingerprints. Once a month we have our Dead Hill night tour which is held on the last Friday of each month.
We also offer catering such as platters and drinks or sick'n'twisted dinners for any type of events. School children have fun with scavenger hunts when they come through with their class teachers. We look forward to hosting you soon!
