Hikoi Tahi Walking Tours offer digital tours that share stories rarely heard before. Download the walk from the App stores whenever you want, before you leave home if you like. Then when you are ready, walk in your own time at your own pace, listening to local voices telling national stories, great if you arrive late or leave early morning. Developed in partnership with local Māori, some walks are free others, carry a small fee; a percentage of profits are shared with the hapū and community groups who share their stories with you.
Our Christ Church Walk is a tour around the fascinating cemetery of New Zealand’s oldest church, Christ Church in Russell Bay of Islands. The walk is rich with images, text and sound. A map assists your navigation through the cemetery. Those buried here include Māori leaders, first European settlers and itinerant mariners. Their stories give an intriguing insight into some of the characters that made our country. Profits from this walk are shared with Christ Church to help maintain this historic cemetery. It’s a perfect digital postcard of your Russell experience.
