New Zealand’s oldest operating Restaurant, The Gables offers fine food and wine in a stunning waterfront setting. Take a seat on the water, or by the window for views over the bay and a glorious sunset. Park yourself at the new bar for craft beers, cocktails and an extensive local wine list.

Originally constructed in 1847 as a “Bordello” catering for the needs of the early Whalers and early trading vessel crews, The Gables offers history and charm with original fireplaces, polished Kauri floors, historic maps and photographs lining the walls.

Fine food with a relaxed atmosphere is the order today. Executive Chef Colin Saunders menu always showcases the freshest local seafood and top cuts of N.Z beef and lamb to create dishes with influences from around the world, utilizing local sourced produce.

The wine list spans New Zealand’s major growing regions with strong influences from regional and boutique producers. Traditional cocktails are always available as are home-grown contemporary concoctions making the most of seasonal fruits.
