Nigel and Cathy Henton are British wine professionals who moved to the Loire 10 years ago. They welcome small groups to their beautiful 16th century home and tasting room just a short walk from the beautiful riverside village of Le Thoureil in Anjou.
Hop on the TGV in Paris (Montparnasse) and Cathy and Nigel will collect you from the station in Angers for a day of Loire Wine Discovery. The day includes a comprehensive tasting of wines from all over the region together with lots of information about the growers. Cathy leads the tasting which is always adapted to suit the interests of the group.
After a relaxed aperitif you'll enjoy a home cooked lunch in their old barrel maturation cellar. A typical lunch would be griddled chicken breast with roasted vegetables and couscous or confit of duck with lentils followed by a top quality cheeseboard from the most famous Loire valley cheese supplier Beillevaire and a dessert such as lemon tarte, clafoutis or dark chocolate mousse.
In the afternoon you'll head off out into the vineyards for a further tasting at a a local winery and Nigel tells you all about growing grapes in the Loire.
You'll have the chance to buy wines at cellar door prices and at the end of the day you are dropped off at the station in Angers in time to take the 17h40 train back to Paris.
All tours are led by the owners, are in English and operate from 1st March until the 31 October 2017 for between 2 and 7 people.
