The Monsterkabinett takes you on a journey through Berlin’s independent arts scene – enter a parallel universe in Berlin’s underground, inhabited by automatic monsters! In Haus Schwarzenberg at Hackescher Markt! Visitors of all ages are welcome! Our trilingual attendants from beautiful Transylvania will guide you safely through the twenty-minute Monstershow! The Monsterkabinett is a walk-through art space and complete sensory experience. Dramatic presentation and original music set the stage for the kinetic, digitally driven and pneumatically powered mechanical monsters. The surreal surroundings are reminiscent of a poetic fantasy film or the inner world of a computer game.
It's a runaway amusement park which has taken on a strange life of its own. Bizarre creatures sing, dance and recite poetry in their habitat, telling tales of mysterious inner journeys.
For art lovers, it is the chance to fully experience an absurd “Gesamtkunstwerk”. Inventors, manga & anime fans and character design afficionados will find what they are seeking. For those interested in Berlin stories, Monsterkabinett is a doorway to the heady days of Berlin-Mitte in the early post-wall era. Monsterkabinett is a small private museum produced by the Berlin artist group, “Dead Chickens”. Although unsubsidised, Monsterkabinett offers an affordable ticket to authentic Berlin and into an underground labyrinth where eleven elderly, yet agile robot friends delight and entertain and allow normality to be called into question.
After the show, those who would like a memento can acquire unique and limited edition monster creations directly from the artists and support the independent arts scene.
For a convivial conclusion to the evening, the monster artists bar, “Eschschloraque Rümschrümp”, offers cocktails and refreshments and an evening programme of DJs and live performance.
