The Acropolis Museum is an archaeological site specific museum of the 21st century, housing the most famous works of classical antiquity.

It is located in the historical area of Makriyianni, southeast of the Rock of the Acropolis, on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, Athens. It is only 300 metres from the Acropolis and approximately two kilometres from Syntagma Square, the main square of the city of Athens. The Acropolis metro station is on the east side of the Museum site. The Museum entrance is located at the beginning of the pedestrian walkway of Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, which constitutes the central route for the unified network of the city’s archaeological sites. It has a total area of 25,000 square meters, with exhibition space of over 14,000 square meters.

The Acropolis Museum offers all the amenities expected in an international museum of the 21st century. The rich collections provide visitors with a comprehensive picture of the human presence on the Acropolis, from pre-historic times through late Antiquity. Integral to this program is the display of an archeological excavation on the site of the Museum itself: ruins from the 4th through 7th centuries A.D., left intact and protected beneath the building and made visible through the first floor.

The Acropolis Museum provides a restaurant on the second floor, with panoramic views of the Acropolis and a 700 square meter public terrace commanding a breathtaking view of the historic hills of Athens. The Acropolis Museum hosts two Shops, one at the ground floor level and one next to the Museum Restaurant on the second floor. Among other facilities, the Museum offers a Reading Lounge on the second floor with views of the Caryatids and the Hekatompedos Pediment where visitors can relax on comfortable chairs and browse through books on the Acropolis and the classical world.
