Gljúfrasteinn was the home and workplace of Halldór Laxness (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955) and his family. The house is now a museum, where the author's home is preserved just as it was when he lived and worked there.

Gljúfrasteinn Laxnes Museum is located in the valley of Mosfellsdalur on the way to Thingvellir National Park. It takes around 20 minutes to drive from downtown Reykjavík to Gljúfrasteinn.

Tours of the house are available in Icelandic, English, German, Swedish and Danish, and an illustrated guide in French.
