Built in its present shape in 1543, but originally in 1128, the Lanterna is 77 meters high and rises on a rock of 40 meters in height. Therefore it rises 117 meters above sea level. Its beam of light is projected for more than 50 kilometers.

A pedestrian promenade 800 meters long, between the Ferry Terminal and the “Lanterna”, the walk crosses over the quays of the port and takes you to the Lanterna, the fortification, the city park and the Museum.The promenade is mainly built skirting the walls wich supported the ancient road leading to Genoa from the west, it retraces the route and forms a balcony from wich Harbour activities can be observed and wich make of Genoa an important port.
