Beatenberg lies in the Bernese Oberland, in the heart of Switzerland. High above Lake Thun, above the fog, at an altitude of 1200 metres, Beatenberg has a ring-side view of the Bernese Alps. The breathtaking peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau pose against a background of a blue sky - Lake Thun’s blue-green waters glisten far below Beatenberg, the village that has not lost any of its country charm, despite being dependent on tourists. On the contrary: Beatenberg has succeeded in combining farming and tourism in the best way possible.
Description
Beatenberg extends from Lake Thun, at an altitude of 556m, to
the Niederhorn-Gemmenalphorn-Seefeld area, the highest point of which is 2061m above sea level. Three of the four parts of the village are spread out along the 7km village street, the fourth is down by the lake. This makes Beatenberg, with its 1300 residents, the longest village in Europe. Its sunny, wind-sheltered position gives Beatenberg a mild, pleasant climate. The long hours of sunshine (7 hours on the shortest day) and the fresh mountain air make it popular as a spa. However, it is also well-known and popular for family holidays.

Untouched mountain valleys, breathtaking views, luscious alpine meadows and bubbling mountain streams warm the hearts of nature-lovers. And all this is in the midst of snow-covered mountains and green lakes. Beatenberg’s distinctive beauty was already appreciated by princes and emperors at the turn of the century, during the so called ‘Belle Epoque’ era. Today the best-seller author, Erich von Däniken, lives in Beatenberg. A well-travelled explorer, he is convinced that in Beatenberg he has found the most beautiful place on this planet.
