The Zeughauskeller, from an historic armoury to a place of culinary delights
Welcome to a house with a long history and tradition. The «Zeughauskeller» was built in 1487 – even before Columbus had discovered America. The name «Zeughaus» means that all kinds of weapons and armaments of war were stored and mended in this house. Legend has it that – apart from other historical weapons – the crossbow*, belonging to Wilhelm Tell, was stored here as well.
On the menu you will find traditional dishes, based on recipes that have been cherished and refined for centuries. A wide range of hearty meat dishes, special sausages and world famous Swiss specialities, such as «Zürcher Geschnetzeltes» (panfried sliced veal with mushrooms in a delicious creamy white wine sauce, served with Rösti) or «Kalbsleberli» (panfriedcalf’s liver, served with Rösti).
