Steve Flynn, winemaker/owner, caught the 'wine bug' during his first crush in September 2002 while working for Mountain Spirit Winery in Salida. He was soon on his way, fermenting everything in sight, from dandelions in the spring, Colorado fruit in the summer, and Colorado grapes in the autumn. After four years working at a commercial winery, Steve decided to embrace his 20 years of fine arts and cooking experience to pursue winemaking as a craft, and ultimately, an art. Opening Vino Salida in 2009, he has worked closely with Colorado grape and honey producers to forge long lasting relationships, focusing on the grower's talent for growing good wine. In the cellar, Steve's unending drive to craft a better product has led to many different styles of wine, all tasting unique and purely Coloradan.
All our Colorado wines are processed in small batches. We've already received tons of fresh grapes from Palisade, Colorado! This year's bounty has included Chardonnay, Albarino, Riesling, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Carignan!  We're slowly crafting the new wines into yummy goodness, infusing them with hearty laughter, lots of nurturing love, and plenty of jazz! Colorado's abundant sunshine, warm days, cool nights, and low  humidity provide the perfect conditions for wine grapes that feature the  complex character and chemistry required to craft award-winning wines. The  federal government has designated two regions in Colorado as American  Viticultural Areas (AVA): The Grand Valley AVA, including  Grand Junction and Palisade, and the West Elks AVA,  surrounding Paonia and Hotchkiss. Our state's wineries are an important part  of Colorado's agritourism, offering wine tastings, winery tours, vineyard  tours, and wine festivals.
Chaffee County is Colorado's Headwaters of Adventure. With endless  outdoor activities including hiking, biking, kayaking, rafting, fishing, hunting, rock hounding, horseback riding, off-roading, Jeep tours, rock climbing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing, hot springs, zipline tours, golfing, theatre, live music, and shopping in Historic Downtown Salida and Buena Vista.
