We are a charming country inn in a 150 year-old building that was the original stagecoach stop in the 1850s and later a communal kitchen for the Amana Colony Inspirationists, a German religious group that settled along the Iowa River in southeast Iowa. We are located in the scenic village of Homestead, one of the seven Amana Colonies.
Die Heimat (German for the "homeplace) County Inn has 16 unique, beautifully decorated rooms with private baths, high speed Internet and flat-screen cable TVs. We offer a full hot breakfast each morning in our dining room. We are located close to the shops, wineries, theaters, and restaurants in the colonies. We also are not far from Iowa City, home to the University of Iowa, Cedar Rapids, and Kalona, the largest Amish community west of the Mississippi River.
We also have an event center, Next Door Event Center, conveniently located right next to us. It is an historic Amana building with a large meeting room, full kitchen, bathrooms, A/C, ample parking and yard space. We are the perfect place for group events such as family reunions, class reunions, retreats, weddings, business meetings, and celebrations of any kind.
