This Historic Garden Trail covers over 400 miles primarily along the eastern border of USA and Canada. It blooms May through October. Visitors will experience and enjoy the natural beauty that a garden provides while celebrating the peace that has existed between Canada and the USA over the past 200 years. Story boards bring history to life as visitors learn about the events of the War of 1812 that determined the future of United States, Canada and the fate of many First Nations and Native American people. These permanent gardens are beautifully maintained, mostly by dedicated volunteers who feature seasonal floral displays, local art work, and host special events at various locations. Presently there are 19 Peace Gardens in New York State. The trail is part of the NYS Path Through History campaign. Free admission to all gardens. This trail is part of a world wide campaign organized by the International Peace Garden Foundation honoring countries for their peace keeping achievements.
