Untermyer Gardens is an historic garden that was called "America's Most spectacular Garden" in the 1920's. These once world-famous gardens went into a long decline until 2011 when the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy was established to work with the City of Yonkers to restore them. The property is 43 acres located on the Hudson River opposite the peak of the Palisades. Six gardeners are now working there, and 60,000 people visited them in 2016.
The most famous part of the garden is the Walled Garden, the finest Persian garden in the Western Hemisphere. It contains magnificent fountains, sculptures, mosaics and flowers. The Temple of Love, with its 5 waterfalls and 6 cascades, was restored in 2016. The Vista, a spectacular staircase terminating in two ancient Roman monolithic columns, will be completely restored in 2017.
