The Team ECCO Ocean Center & Aquarium is the place for an ocean experience in the mountains! We are home to over 28 exhibits that house tortoises, turtles, lizards, California stingray, eels, dozens of salt water fish and invertebrates, and a project to raise baby sharks.
Opened in 2011 as the first inland aquarium in NC, we greet an average of 7,000 visitors and provide integrative education programs to over 3,000 people yearly. All exhibits are designed and maintained by student volunteers and interns who are training in marine science, teaching, or marine animal care.
Team ECCO Inc. was founded in 2001 as a way to engage local children with ocean based experiences. Brenda j Ramer is the Founder & Executive Director. She brings 25+ years of sea exploration, teaching, and adventure to create one of the most unique aquarium settings you will encounter. Visit us, talk with our interns, and see the sea in a whole new light.
