Rode Hall & Gardens

Rode Hall is a fine early eighteenth century country house set in a Repton landscape. Home to the Wilbraham family since 1669, the extensive grounds boast a woodland garden, formal garden designed by Nesfield in 1860, a stunning two acre walled kitchen garden and a new Italian garden. The hall boasts a fine collection of English porcelain and furniture and our guided tours run throughout Wednesday afternoons.

Rode is renowned for one of the North's finest Snowdrop Walks in February with over 70 varieties to admire. It's a beautiful end-of-winter walk with a wonderfully diverse landscape and a sure sign that Spring is on its way.Walk along paths amidst carpets of white flowers on an enchanting mile-long route. Take in the wild beauty of cascading snowdrops in the Old Wood and Wild Garden, the scenic path down to the Lake and drifts of snowdrops in the borders of the formal Nesfield garden in front of the Hall. Highlights are also the Walled Kitchen Garden and an unmissable vista down the Colonel’s Walk where some of the rarest varieties can be viewed.

In May visitors can enjoy Rode’s carpets of ancient bluebells, now even more extensively due to the recent discovery and restoration of an old path through the Old Wood, previously used by villagers walking to the House in the 1800's. A magical stroll for all the family, it is a lovely time to soak up the incredible colours of bluebells and spring flowers at their best. Walk through the shimmering bluebell carpets covering the ground of the Old Wood, experience the stunning wildflowers in the Wild Garden and the blaze of colours from rare early Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Chilean Fire Bushes.

The beautiful kitchen garden comes into its own from the end of June with row upon row of stunning flowers and vegetables. All the produce grown is used in the tearooms or sold at the monthly farmers market. It is also home to our world record breaking gooseberries grown by our head gardener, Kelvin Archer.

Our tearooms serve homemade cakes, light lunches and refreshments in our wonderfully atmospheric old stables complete with flaming wood burner.

Popular farmers' market on the first Saturday of every month with over 70 local artisan & craft stalls.
