The main business of the Porthvean is renting out the whole house as a single self-catering unit to groups of family/friends. When not rented out, we offer B&B on a room per night basis.
The building itself is old - it was the White Hart over 200 years ago, with parts of the property about twice that age. Behind our small private car park (space for 4 or 5 cars) are buildings which are owned by the National Trust. Also at the rear is a decked barbecue area.
At the front is a small terrace, sunny and sheltered, an ideal vantage point for local events such as the Carnival, Flora Dances and Victorian Street Fayre, or just sit with a drink and watch the world go by. (There are a further 2 private parking spaces here, between the terrace and the street.)
Our 7 bedrooms are nicely appointed, warm, comfortable and arranged thus:
Front: top floor - kingsize double with two single beds, kingsize double
first floor - superking double with a single bed, kingsize double
Back: first floor - superking double, superking double, twin
Some are quite versatile in the bed arrangements with the use of ziplink superking doubles which offer the opportunity to split to two singles. You should specify which arrangement will suit your party. Six rooms have their own en suite shower, washbasin and WC and a couple of them will take a cot without being too cramped. The seventh bedroom (twin bedded) has its own wash basin and is next to the bathroom. They all have flat screen TV's with Freeview, hair dryers and heaters that you control. Off the main landing is the bathroom with a bath for those who prefer it, shower, washbasin and WC.
Should the weather be unkind, the lounge bar has a real log fire to cheer you. With its TV, satellite, DVD and music system, this makes a very comfortable centre of the house. Here, the bar counter lets you play host with its useful servery for liquid refreshment! Chiller and icemaker compliment this area. Adjoining the lounge is another room with a piano and some card tables - ideal for those games of chess, cards, jigsaw puzzles etc. a sing song, or just a quiet sit with a good book. At the other end of the house, is a small games room and at the end of the day, why not relax in the sauna and hot tub; a real aid to unwinding.
The dining room provides a large table to seat you all (complete with baby seats if needed), and in the kitchen you will find most of the modern appliances you might need - dishwasher, gas hob, double electric ovens, food processor, freezer, microwaves, fridges, toasters etc. We are told that the kitchen is particularly well-equipped for the needs of a large party. By the downstairs back door are a washing machine, tumble dryer, trouser press, small drying area and another loo.
There is free WiFi internet access throughout the Porthvean.
