Polperro
Polperro is an unspoilt 13th century fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall located directly on the South West Coastal Path with Looe to the east and Fowey to the west.
The village has a rich history full of tales of fishing and smuggling through the ages. The Polperro Harbour Heritage Museum is worth visiting to find out more.
When smuggling died out in the 19th century, many artists and photographers were attracted to the village. Today Polperro still has a strong artist community with a variety of galleries exhibiting their works.
Music also plays an important part in the village with the annual 9 day Polperro Festival in June showcasing artists and bands from far and wide. Throughout the year you will find live music on the bill at many of the bars and the famous Polperro Fishermen’s Choir perform regularly by the Quay.
There are a wide selection of restaurants, pubs and cafes in the village offering something suitable for every occasion from fine dining to a simple ice cream or local award winning pasty and of course the seafood is as fresh as it gets.
At low tide there’s a small but beautiful sandy beach that’s ever popular with children and adults alike.
Fishing trips can be booked at the harbour and regular boat trips leave for Looe and Fowey.
Local Area
The beauty of Cornwall is breath-taking and countless walks can be taken directly from the house.
Take a walk along the coastal path to the east and visit the Talland Bay Beach Café for breakfast and Looe for lunch or head west for a more challenging route passing through Lansalos Beach and spectacular Lantic Bay on the way to the passenger ferry at Polruan and over to Fowey.
Further afield but in easy reach take a visit to the Lost Gardens of Helligan, The Eden Project or The National Maritime Museum at Falmouth to name a but a few.
For something different why not give the UK’s first “Football Golf” park in St Austell a try!
A visit to the open air Minack Theatre near Porthcurno is a memorable experience or for the golf lovers squeeze in a round at world famous Lanhydrock.
Countless spectacular beaches can be found on both the north and the south coast.
The area has something to offer in all seasons with impossible beauty around every corner.
Access
The elevated position and seclusion of the house mean that there is a safe but steep path from the village to reach the house level.
The house is not suited to anyone with limited mobility or anyone generally unsteady on their feet.
Polperro is a largely traffic free village as many of the “roads” are far too narrow for a car. Parking is available at the top of the village, (parking pass included with rental) and it’s a 750m stroll to the harbour area.
From the harbour it’s a short walk along “The Warren” to reach the entrance to the path at the bottom of our hill.
From April to November an electric tram service runs from the car park to the village centre.
The Polperro Luggage Taxi (quad bike with trailer), can be booked to take your
