Dowfold House Bed and Breakfast is a luxury bed and breakfast at the heart of County Durham. We offer a warm welcome to our attractive, relaxing Victorian home - and our award-winning breakfast will set you up for the day. Unusually, our welcome extends beyond mere humans, with dogs - and even horses - being catered for, and our own dogs and cats are equally hospitable.
We rate very highly with TripAdvisor, featuring in its Hall of Fame, and winning a Platinum Award in its GreenLeader platform to highlight eco-friendly accommodation. We also hold a 4-Star assessment from Quality in Tourism, as well as one of its prestigious Gold Awards, together with its Breakfast Award. We're a member of the Wolsey Lodges select grouping of luxury Bed and Breakfasts, and have achieved a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
From Dowfold House Bed and Breakfast, there is a wealth of great things to see and do, all in easy reach. From the World Heritage Site that is Durham Cathedral, to world-class attractions such as Beamish - the Living Museum of the North, Raby Castle and the renowned Bowes Museum, there is a depth of religious and industrial heritage unsurpassed in the United Kingdom. County Durham's Weardale, rising to the North Pennines and the Roof of England is justly renowned as England's Last Real Wilderness, with unparalleled opportunities for walkers, cyclists, trekkers, riders and lovers of game sports. Our Dark Skies offer tremendous experiences for those whose interests extend beyond our small planet. The city of Durham has been described - by Bill Bryson, no less - as "the most perfect small city ", and is a delightful place to spend time wandering along its byways (there are no highways; the Normans didn't really allow for the motor car) and along the River Wear, meandering gently through the city.
