LOVE WALKING? DISCOVERED HEREFORDSHIRE?
A WORLD OF WALKING BUT NOT A WORLD AWAY

Over 38 million people claim to be enjoying it at least once a month and at least 7 million are doing it most weekends. The popularity of recreational walking is rising, but does the though of using a map and compass bring you out in a cold sweat? Do grid references and navigation put you off that country walk you have always longed to do? Walk Herefordshire take care of the trail finding and navigation, allowing you to explore this beautiful part of the county in the best possible way – on foot!

“Walking is healthy, accessible, enjoyable and a safe activity that everyone can enjoy” said Dennis Downey, from Walk Herefordshire “You can do it almost anywhere from town parks to mountain treks and it can cost you next to nothing” Unlike most other physical activities, walking is popular with all age groups, abilities and sexes. Dennis went on to say, “And it’s not just the stereotypical image of your typical British rambler who take part, I escort people on walks of all ages, abilities and backgrounds”

To allow you to take part in this growing past time – Walk Herefordshire are offering escorted walks to individuals, schools, church groups, businesses, organisations and clubs throughout Herefordshire and South Shropshire.

“We offer a range of walking opportunities on your doorstep – from the easiest rambles for new and novice walkers to more challenging mountain ascents for the more seasoned strider. You don’t have to go to the more established traditional walking areas; these often suffer from visitor pressure, overcrowding and erosion. We are very fortunate in Herefordshire, on our doorstep; we have 2100 miles of largely unspoilt and undiscovered footpaths, mountain treks, and trails including the famous Mortimer Trail, low level and waterside walks. I always say that Herefordshire offers a world of walking, that’s not a world away”

Whatever type of walk you are interested in – they all have one thing in common, they are all lead by experienced walking leaders who really can bring the countryside to life. “Let us take care of trails, organisation, navigation - you concentrate on exploring the unspoilt and undiscovered countryside of Herefordshire. You have peace of mind, knowing that an experienced walking guide is in charge”
Dennis has enjoyed walking in the countryside for most of his life and in the last 25 years has become intimately acquainted with the local footpaths in the county. Therefore, you can rest assured that you are in good company. Dennis who has been an official guide for Herefordshire walking festival can offer practical advice on getting started, escorting walks for families with young children and easy walking for the less energetic or fit.

“What is proving very popular is combining walking with another interest. Inn to Inn walks, Real Ale Rambles, Tea Shop Stop walks, local church yard trails and a Taste of Herefordshire Hen Party Weekends are just a few of the special interest walks which we have organised. Our aim is to provide you with escorted walks that sample the best that this county can offer. We don’t aim to break speed records when we walk and because the emphasis is always on fun, we are finding that more and more groups, clubs, businesses and families in the county are adding escorted walking in the country as a regular feature of their social calendar.

“So I guess that when it comes to walking, you will be footloose and fancy free”. To find out more about the full range of services on offer at Walk Herefordshire, contact Dennis Downey.
