Open to the public since 1982, the Museum is located on the site of the former RAF airfield which existed from 1918 to 1970.
In the summer of 1940, RAF Tangmere was a main sector airfield of Fighter Command in the front line defence of the UK during the Battle of Britain. RAF Tangmere was used as a forward base by the Special Operations Executive to mount clandestine flights into Occupied Europe. See our displays featuring the exploits of the men and women who undertook these hazardous missions.

Get up close to our iconic aircraft from WW2 and the Cold War Era!
‘Fly’ our simulators – including our Lightning simulator (adults only) and the ‘Combat’ simulator for the kids! Plus sit in our new WW1 SE5A replica cockpit, constructed by our own engineers. See our many exhibits which date from the earliest days of military aviation in the Great War and include the role played by women in the WAAF and the ATA during WW2.
