Britains highest adhesion railway, at some 1500 feet above sea level. Leadhills is situated in the Lowther Hills, where lead mining has been carried out since 1451. The journey winds through the hills and passes remnants of the mining activity. Run entirely by volunteers, we are open at weekends from April till September. The first train sets off at 11.00 and the last train is 16.00.
