The Townsville Maritime Museum is the custodian of the maritime history of North Queensland. It's objective is to preserve maritime culture and to feature, interpret and display the historic collections and gifts of regional and national maritime significance in an evolving, lively and engaging manner for the education and enjoyment of all patrons. The Yongala display is the highlight of the museum, and focuses on the stories of the some of the passengers. The museum is also the custodian of the ex-HMAS Townsville, a former military vessel, that was gifted to the museum upon the vessel's decommissioning in 2007. The museum is open from 10am to 3pm, seven days a week.
