The Egyptian Theatre at the American Cinematheque
Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre
Spielberg Theatre

Home of Hollywood's first movie premiere, the Egyptian Theatre is a historical landmark on Hollywood Boulevard. Built in 1922 by showman Sid Grauman, it was renovated and reopened in 1998 and is now open to the public for special screenings and events. The name and look of the theatre was inspired by the Egyptian craze sweeping the nation the country around the time of the discovery of King Tut's tomb.

At the American Cinematheque, we show a wide variety of films from classic films to modern blockbusters. We show some of your favorite old movies you won't find in theatres anywhere else. Some of our events and showings also include one-of-a-kind discussions and talks with directors, actors, authors, and more! Guided tours of this iconic theatre are offered occasionally throughout each month.

The Egyptian Theatre building itself actually houses two separate theatres, the main Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre seats a little over 600 guests, and the smaller, more intimate Steven Spielberg Theatre seats almost 80 guests. The theaters are open for rental on days there are no events already scheduled. Check out the calendar on our website!
