War Horse Valley Country Park is situated at Parsonage Farm, which has been farmed by the same family for nearly 100 years, and is the farm around which the book War Horse by Michael Morpurgo was set, along with the parish of Iddesleigh. It was also once the home to Revd John "Jack Russell, the first breeder of the terriers to which he gives his name.
War Horse Valley is a place to explore with its farming history, its people and its Wartime stories and of course the place where the story of Joey and Albert was born. We have a farming bygone display comparing farming today and farming 100 years ago. Meet our own Joey and his friends the Shetlands. There are also three Alpacas to meet, called Latte, Mocha and Cappuccino, young calves, sheep, Gloucester Old Spot pigs, rabbits, ducks and working collie dogs.
You can take a walk on our farm trail, about half a mile long following the granite rollers marking the way, good walking shoes recommended. After which you are able to have a cream tea or cake in our conservatory overlooking stunning views of Iddesleigh village. There is a small play area for children.
In the school holidays visitors are able to help Farmer Graham with feeding the young calves.
We have a very Mogul tractor on display and a First World War trench layout with sound effects.
We are open from 2.00 pm - 6.00 pm and teas served between 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
