Located in the gently rolling farmland between Chelmsford and Maldon, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is the most authentically complete Great War airfield in Europe and probably the world. It is a wonderful collection of original buildings and home to a most ambitious project to return the site to as close as possible to the condition it was in in 1919, when it was closed.
It presently houses the first of three planned museums, a wonderful shop, fully operational Mess serving hot and cold food and drink. The Engine Workshop Museum was opened in May 2016 by John Whittingdale MP, Cabinet Minister for Culture. It tells the story of the Royal Flying Corps and the FIrst Blitz through a mixture of dioramas and Interactives.
Guided Tours are hourly and free with admission. Our expert guides will lead you through our collection of period aircraft, as well as around the site to learn the history and the planned future of our 118 acres.
Our group visits are very popular, with offers that include talks, films and menus ranging from tea and cake to full sit down meals - all planned into one price.
Children get into the site free until aged 16!
