Beth Chatto (1923-2018) influenced and inspired generations of gardeners across the world. In 1960, she began transforming an overgrown wasteland, comprising poor soil and boggy hollows, into a series of informal and tranquil gardens. Famous for her ability to grow plants in difficult places, based on her dictum 'The right plant for the right place', as well as her artistic flair, Beth turned the seven-acre gardens set in Essex countryside, into a mecca for plant lovers.
