Armidale Poppy’s Cottage Armidale Award Winning B&B Poppy’s Cottage, BREAKFAST INCLUDED IN COST, set on 140 acres, is only 10 minutes from the heart of historic Armidale. Enjoy cosy and warm accommodation in the “Settlers’ Cottage” adjoining the 1901 homestead. The cottage built circa 1860, is set in about 2 acres of established, leafy, English style garden, interspersed with old-fashioned perennials and roses. With 2 bedrooms and ensuite, the cottage is totally private. Guests have the option of a delicious three-course dinner by candlelight, with complimentary bottle of wine. There is no extra payment for wonderful breakfasts which include a large selection of fresh and poached fruits, yoghurt, freshly squeezed orange juice as well as a full cooked breakfast. This may be served during the warmer weather in the garden under the canopy of the fruit trees to the music of birdcall. The bread is home baked, and the jams made from the fruit trees in the garden. The cost for a double per night with accommodation and the beautiful big breakfast is $160 : $165 for a twin. The cost for an extra adult is $60 (B&B) and a child under 12 years $50.
There is a microwave in the cottage, a small refrigerator and availability of a BBQ also. Television (with DVD) is available on request. There is a CD system, so you may like to take along some of your favourite CD’s, and they do also provide a selection of both CD’s and DVD’s for you to enjoy. There is a good sized dining table in the cottage with crockery, cutlery mats, table napkins etc.

The cottage is well geared for children with lots of very friendly animals, and a trampoline. Children may like to collect the eggs from the hens in the morning. There is a lovable young Border Collie and also pet ducks in the garden, so children have plenty of opportunity for an enjoyable farm experience. There is also a cat with a most interesting personality. The newest addition is a rather cheeky little miniature horse named Coki. The geese on the dam out in the paddock are very friendly. The garden of 2 acres is fully fenced.

The cottage is not large; it is well equipped with a selection of books, magazines and activities, and you will even find an extinct volcano to climb! There is a main bedroom (not large) with ensuite, and then a second bedroom with 2 single beds and a pullout double sofa bed. There are heaters in every room, good insulation and electric blankets on all the beds. Fans are provided for the warmer weather.

You may enjoy the hike up the extinct volcano on the property and some wonderful views. The elm lined lane which borders the property is excellent for an early morning stroll, and very quiet. The accommodation is only a short 15 minute drive from Oxley Wild Rivers National Park - you may see a photo of the waterfall on their webpage. They are in close proximity to Petersons Winery where you will have the chance to sample some lovely local wines at their cellar door.

Known for its rich history from the early days of European settlement, Armidale has many fine heritage buildings, elegant cathedrals and grand pastoral homesteads. Armidale's free Heritage Tour, (which runs daily from the Visitors’ Centre), is an excellent way of enjoying a guided tour of the city. It would be wise to book for the tour.
Poppy’s Cottage is the ideal base to experience Armidale’s culture, tourist attractions With only a short drive (about one hour), you can experience some spectacular and world class scenery in the New England National Park, or take the road further along from Poppy’s Cottage for about 15 minutes to the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park and waterfalls. There are picnicking facilities and spectacular walks. The walks in the park are stunning.
Enjoy tasting wines from the adjacent winery or sampling a delicious lunch in the gardens of the vineyard homestead. Safe undercover parking is available for your vehicle. Your hosts look forward to making you welcome.
