The Texas Theatre is an art house cinema, bar, art gallery, and event space. Howard Hughes owned the joint when it opened for business on San Jacinto Day in 1931. The Theatre was in continuous operation until 1989 and has seen countless first movies and first dates, and celebrations of all kinds. It got its spot in world history books, however, on 22 November 1963, when theatre staff, along with a neighboring shoe store's manager, alerted the Dallas Police Department to the fact that a young man had sneaked in to the movie - a young man who matched the description of Officer JD Tippit's murder. The police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald, who was later accused of assassinating President John F. Kennedy.
