A visit to The Claymills Victorian Pumping Station in Burton-on-Trent is a must if you want to get a grip with your industrial past or just have a good day out. There are two huge operational beam engines plus a further 28 working steam engines. Then there's a magnificent steam driven workshop with real work still going on at the benches and machines. Next door is the oldest working electrical generator in Britain.
Families can follow the "Rat trail" start a steam engine or pump water and there are activities for early years children in the 130 House.
Light refreshments and drinks are on offer as well as delicious homemade cake.
