The Great House is a luxury award winning boutique hotel in the centre of historic village of Lavenham that offers some of the best food in Suffolk. The restaurant offers modern French cooking with a twist that highlights the flavours of the seasonal ingredients used.
It’s been called ‘one of the best restaurants in England’ by The Sunday Times; has won the 2016 AA Inspectors Choice Gold awards, has 3 AA rosettes and is The Good Hotel Guide Editor’s Choice 2015 award for Gourmet Hotels.
The Great House is a very authentic English country house dating from the 15th century with a Georgian facade, with polished floorboards and oak beams. Once owned by the renowned photographer and artist, Humphrey Spender (1935 – 1945) and the writer Christopher Bush (1953 – 1973) known for his legendary detective novels featuring investigator Ludovic Travers.
The restaurant offers modern French cooking with a twist that highlights the flavours of the seasonal ingredients used. In the paved patio, you can enjoy lunch, dinner and even breakfast if you choose to stay overnight.
The five bedrooms, each with its ensuite bathroom and four with seating or a separate lounge are light and elegant still retaining the wonderful charm of the house.
