aunas Castle is one of the oldest stone castles in Lithuania. It was built in the 14th century in a strategically important location at the confluence of the Nemunas and the Neris rivers to serve as a defence against the violent Teutonic attacks.
The permanent exhibition „The Mosaic of Kaunas Castle History“ presents the history of Kaunas Castle from the 14th century to the present day, including the main historical facts and personalities, metamorphosis of the castle‘s buildings, variation of its functions. The Kaunas Castle Court is presented in the exposition. Everyone can feel the spirit of the 17th century Kaunas (from tile to a pot fragment) as well as walk around the dungeons of Kaunas Castle. There is a stylized prison located in the basement of the castle where every visitor can try himself the medieval irony chains or take a picture pilloried just like the criminals were in the 16th-19th centuries in Western Europe.
