The museum runs in the complex of a few restored old-time buildings. One of them is an architecturally valuable gothic residential building which was built in the 2nd half of the 16th century. The cozy forecourts surrounding the museum buildings send out special feeling and originality of the old-town. There are more than 7000 exhibits collected in the museum. The collections include all kinds of Lithuanian, nationwide and other cultures music instruments, sound recordings, photos, letters, cards, placards and other archives.
International festivals, concerts, get-togethers, meetings with folklore collectives as well as a number of exhibitions are organized in the museum every year.
