Astonishing! It feels palpably Elizabethan, with mullioned windows, gables, great expanses of stoned slated and thatched roofs and full of staircases and those unexpected corners that make old buildings so fascinating.
The bonhomie starts on arrival with Nick and his wife Jennifer both in their early 60’s. Nick who is the second generation of this family home has opened it and prize-winning gardens to guests with generosity and is enjoying himself hugely.
The house is superbly well-crafted and polished to perfection with traditional bedrooms that are warm, carpeted and cosy. There is also a pine panelled drawing room for guests use where you can enjoy a drink from the honesty bar from which all profits go to charity.
Outside there’s an outdoor, summer-heated swimming pool flanked by a folly, an all-weather tennis court, croquet, a snooker/billiard/pool room and a 10 acre arboretum with over 280 species of trees – all for guests enjoyment.
It’s sumptuous, immaculate and great fun.
